1]. Plus our bank balances relevant to each active, ringfenced building company/renovation account.
2]. This brings to the fore the budget-head required to complete each building.
3]. There are NO mortgages nor debt on any of our buildings.
4]. “To Do Less Better” is the mantra from fellow Arran islander Jack McConnell. The full narrative as it affects our shareholders, stakeholders, buildings we renovate, etc., is clarified at the foot of this page.
5]. For our purposes, it means (at this phase of retirement and renewal), that we will be selling all surplus properties and slim right down from 12 to 2 limited-liability companies (possibly one plc for FCA purposes) and 2 registered charities.

To Do Less Better
Though I have not always succeeded at this..
The very same year that I was elected sabbatical student union president at Hamilton, fellow Arran ferry traveller and friend, Jack McConnell was elected sabbatical student union president at Stirling University.
Jack asked me to serve with himself on the National Executive of NUS Scotland. This was a “rich tapestry of life” experience insofar as it put me off of politics as a career path forever. I joined Strathclyde Police instead (here). Whist Jack persisted with politics and endured the horrendous trappings that came with a political career and eventual destination at the House of Lords (here). But the political path came at a terrible price for Jack and his family; particularly for Bridget (here and here).
=> Some years later, Jack deployed the phrase: “To do less, better.”
It may not have set the heather alight at that time, but for this soul, those words have been something of a North Star.
